Spokane, WA

It was a different story this time around in extra innings for the Spokane Indians, as they fell 5-3 to the Yakima Bears Monday night at Avista Stadium. Spokane couldn’t repeat their dramatic win from Sunday night’s game when a perfect sacrifice bunt scored the game winning run. The Indians now head to Everett to face the AquaSox in a five-game series starting tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.

The Bears got on the board in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Indians tied it up in the bottom of the second when Santo DeJesus, in his first appearance of the season, singled into right field to score Clark Murphy from third. Spokane added two more runs over the next five innings to gain a 3-1.

Yakima wouldn't go down without a fight as pinch hitter Andrew Fie smashed the first pitch from Indians lefty Joseph Ortiz to tie the game at 3-3. Yakima was able to plate two runs in the top of the tenth to get the victory.

Indians starting pitcher Ben Henry struggled with control early in the game, but settled down and went five innings. Henry gave up just one hit and one run while striking out seven. Reliever Justin King picked up the loss. Both teams combined for 29 strikeouts.

Spokane will return home on June 28th to kick off a three-game homestand with Tri-City, starting with Fiesta Night presented by Azteca Mexican Restaurants and K-102 FM.
